“I had no idea,” Bess said, her mind spinning with all that she was learning. This was such a different place. Such different people.

But Kalin was a hottie, no matter what realm he was in, and she found herself hanging on his every word, his every gesture. Did he have any idea the impact he had on women? It didn’t seem so to her.

After dinner, he walked her to the door of the suite she’d been in before with the housekeeper. It was his sister’s suite, but they were letting Bess use it, which was pretty amazing. It was the most luxurious room she’d ever seen, much less been in. And she would get to sleep there tonight.

The only thing that would be better was if she could convince Kalin to join her in that big, inviting featherbed. The scandalous thought crossed her mind, and she quickly quelled it. She’d only just met the man. She should probably wait at least one day before she jumped his bones. A girl had to have some standards, after all, didn’t she? Her cat growled in frustration. It wanted to lick him all over, and it didn’t care about waiting until they knew each other better.

As far as her cougar was concerned, Kalin was yummy, and she wanted to eat him up. The cat thought of him like housecats probably thought of catnip. The nonsensical thought made her smile as he stopped in front of the door to her borrowed suite and moved in close.

“I will say goodnight here,” he said, his voice low and intimate.

Her cat prodded her to invite him in, but her human half was in charge. Or maybe it was her human quarter and fey quarter both knew that it was too soon to be inviting a fey nobleman into her bed. She wanted to get back to the mortal realm, didn’t she? If she became entangled with a fey man, she might find herself wanting to stay, and that wasn’t right. She had a job to get back to, and her adopted family would worry.

Somehow, that didn’t seem like enough reason, but she was stubborn, and she told her inner kitty to sit down and be quiet. For a wonder, it actually listened. Of course, her cat had never been as strong as the other shifters. They’d called her a timid kitty more often than not. She was a bit thankful for that right now.

“Thank you for everything,” she said, her voice pitched as low as his. She might have the cat under control, but she was still wildly attracted to him, no matter which part of her soul was taking the lead. “You’ve been so good to me today. I’m sorry I intruded on your lands.”

“You couldn’t help it,” he replied, moving a little closer. “I’m just glad you ended up here, rather than somewhere else.”

She wondered what he meant by that. It sounded more intimate than the actual words implied. He stepped a little closer, and she could scent his masculine heat.
